What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a virtually invisible way to straighten your teeth. Instead of traditional metal braces, Invisalign features removable clear plastic aligners that fit over your teeth — no brackets or wires. 

How does Invisalign work?

There are three main steps in the Invisalign process:

Treatment planning 

The Los Feliz Dental Center team uses the state-of-the-art iTero® digital scanner to produce a 3D image of your mouth. They then create a treatment plan using special software that allows for individual movement simulation for every tooth in your mouth. You can see the projected outcome on the monitor before you even start treatment. 

Wearing aligners

The Invisalign lab uses your 3D scans and your dentist’s treatment plan to create a group of aligners. All aligners are custom-made to fit your teeth. You’ll wear each set of aligners (one top and one bottom) for about two weeks. 

The aligners move your teeth in increments. To get the best results, you should wear aligners all the time except when you’re eating or brushing your teeth. On average, you should wear them about 20-22 hours a day. 

You’ll wear each set of aligners until completing your two-week period with the last set. Throughout your treatment, you’ll typically come to Los Feliz Dental Center for quick check-ups every four to six weeks. 

Maintaining your results

After completing treatment, most patients transition to a Vivera retainer. As with aligners, Vivera retainers are custom-made and completely clear. They’re 30% stronger than other retainers. Wearing your Vivera retainer as directed can ensure your beautiful smile lasts long term. 

The Invisalign process can vary a bit within each step since each person’s teeth are different. Los Feliz Dental Center creates a personalized treatment plan and helps you follow it to a successful smile correction. 

How long does Invisalign take to straighten teeth?

For mild teeth misalignment, the treatment time could be as short as six months. On average, most people wear Invisalign for about the same amount of time they’d wear traditional metal braces. 

But, when you wear Invisalign instead of braces, you can maintain your appearance, eat normally, easily brush and floss, and straighten your teeth without painful metal brackets and poking wires.
